learn more about the hamers arms

The Hamers Arms is a traditional English pub steeped in local history and heritage. Originally renamed in 1848 in honour of Richard Hamer, a respected local dignitary who purchased the four Summerseat Mills from Sir Robert Peel’s family after their relocation to Nantwich, the pub has long been an important part of the local community.

The name change was carried out by the then publican, Bernard Wolstenholme, whose namesake proudly reopened the fully refurbished Hamers Arms in 2022.

Richard Hamer played a significant role in shaping Summerseat. In 1836, he built Summerseat House, now a Grade II listed building that was more recently used as a pupil learning centre. He also funded a school for vulnerable children within the community, contributed towards the building of a local chapel, and invested heavily in housing and employment opportunities that helped the area prosper.

With this rich history in mind, we have carefully restored and modernised The Hamers Arms while preserving the traditional charm and character that make it so special today.
